What better way to free your mind than a day of fishing. Make your way around Whaler Island to find the perfect fishing spot. It was a hike up and around the huge rock, it was quickly determined that the wind was much too strong, and decided to try the other side.

Whether your fish will be caught with real bait, a lure, or a combination of both, the fishing experience will find your mind wandering into a Zen-like state. If the wind is to much at the ocean you can always head to the Smith River for calmer waters.
As we pulled out of the parking lot we watched as pelicans and other birds seemingly found plenty of fish to eat. Soaring ever so high and then diving into the ocean water to swallow up some fish. They made it look so easy. The fishermen decided to give it one more try just outside of Whaler Island finding a new place to cast from the large rocks where the water was much calmer near South Beach. After about 45 minutes they determined they were not quite as skilled as those dang pelicans so it was back to plan B: It was time to head off to calmer, more protected river water. Watch for our blogs on rivers, creeks, and lake fishing coming soon!

It was a wonderful day all around, the weather was sunny, and the air was clear and fresh. As well, I will continue to post about things to do and see in the area. If you have any questions or would like me to look into a particular subject, let me know.
We encourage you to get outside and enjoy mother natures beauty. Camping is the perfect way to center yourself and get back in touch with your inner child.
When you find that you want to free your mind with some fishing I would recommend stopping in at Englund Marine Supply located at the Crescent City Harbor. If you are a non-resident you can get a 1, 2, or 10-day fishing license for $17/day. They are super helpful guys, and they carry all the supplies you will need including bait. As well, they have a board in the back that posts which fish to catch (including seasonal crab and clams) and when it's okay to catch them, and a leaderboard with the biggest catches by weight for the season.
If you are interested in Ocean Charters I have listed a few to reach out to, price range is usually $150-$200 per person for Rock Cod, Salmon, and Halibut fishing charters. Tuna fishing charters are usually around $400 per person.
